Engagement Ring Trends 2026

Updated 30 October 2026

Exploring engagement ring styles, from a broad band to a low-set bezel, can help you work out what you enjoy wearing. This 2026 edit brings together design ideas from Lily Arkwright’s collection and explains what to compare before choosing. It is an editorial selection, rather than a ranking of UK sales or a claim about the most popular ring.

Your preferred engagement ring shape, the height of the setting and how it sits beside a wedding band matter more than following a forecast. A bespoke creation can be an option when you want to discuss a particular combination of details.

Bespoke choices

Personalisation can start with one decision: the centre stone’s outline, a wider band, a different metal colour or a detail that means something to you. Bring reference images and a comfortable budget to the discussion. Ask which changes are possible, how they affect the complete price and what you will approve before the ring is made.

A slim band puts the visual emphasis on an elongated centre. Compare the setting’s height and the band’s profile as well as the view from above.

East-west settings

An east-west setting places an elongated stone across the finger. It changes the balance of the outline without necessarily adding more decoration. Compare the same shape in both orientations, and check how far the setting extends across your finger and how it meets a wedding band.

For a celebrity-inspired interpretation, look no further than Lily Arkwright's Zella engagement ring, inspired by Zendaya's stunning east-west cushion cut piece.Horizontal cushion-shaped centre stone in a yellow-coloured setting.

Broad engagement ring bands

A broad band changes the balance of a ring even when the centre stone stays the same. You can compare the effect across solitaire rings, halo designs and multi-stone settings; the last collection includes moissanite designs, so check the stated gemstone as well as the style.

Compare width, thickness, inner profile and fit on your own hand. A wider band may feel different from a slim one, so check the size in the design you intend to wear. Width alone does not establish how durable a ring will be, and a broad band can still have a raised setting.

Bezel settings

A bezel surrounds a stone’s edge with metal. Bezel rings can offer protection around the girdle and may catch less readily than a protruding claw setting, depending on the design. A bezel does not make a stone damage-proof. Check setting height, cleaning access and wedding-band clearance as well as the outline.

Lily Arkwright's Dua Lipa inspired bezel set engagement ring, Dulcie, showcases a beautiful example of this highly-trending style.

If you are considering custom and bespoke bezel engagement rings, discuss how much metal you want around the stone and whether you prefer a single centre or several stones. Ask to see the design from above and from the side before approving it.

Vintage settings and antique cuts

A vintage-inspired mount and an antique diamond cut describe different parts of a ring. When browsing vintage diamond rings, look separately at the stone’s faceting and the setting’s detail. Old mine cuts typically have a softly squarish outline and broad facets; old European cuts are generally rounder. Historical old mine diamonds were shaped by hand and designed for candlelit surroundings. That does not mean they were necessarily cut by candlelight or that every antique-style diamond has a warm body colour.

Lily Arkwright's collection of celebrity engagement rings contains celebrity-inspired designs. Use those references to describe details you like, then confirm the material and construction of the ring you are actually considering.

Hope’s vintage character comes from its detailed shoulders. The current design has a princess-cut moissanite centre and natural diamond accents; it is not an example of an old mine or old European cut diamond.

Trilogy combinations

Trilogy rings can carry a personal meaning, often associated with past, present and future. Designs that continue to capture hearts for one wearer may appeal less to another: compare the complete arrangement rather than choosing by symbolism alone.

Explore contrasting gemstones, pavé accents or mixed-metal designs if you enjoy a more detailed design. Check the identity of each gemstone, the balance between centre and side stones, and the setting’s width across the finger. If weights are quoted, ask which figure describes the centre and which describes the total.

Choosing a metal colour

Yellow and rose tones offer a different palette from white gold or platinum. There is no required metal for a particular skin tone. Compare the complete ring beside jewellery you already enjoy, then consider the alloy’s care, finish and maintenance requirements.

Step-cut and brilliant shapes

In diamond-shape collections, the names emeralds and asschers refer to emerald and Asscher cuts, rather than to green emerald gemstones. Their step-like facets create a different pattern from the smaller facets of many brilliant-cut designs. Compare them with round and oval options in more than one lighting condition.

Look at the individual stone’s measurements, proportions and appearance in motion. A shape name or a single close-up photograph does not tell you everything about its brightness, visible size or appearance on your hand.

Elongated cushions

If you like ovals, an elongated cushion offers another way to explore a longer outline with rounded corners. This guide originally forecast a shift toward elongated cushions. Treat that wording as an editorial idea to explore, rather than a measured change in UK buying habits.

Compare the length and width with the traditional cushion cut and with an oval you like. There is no universally flattering proportion: try different outlines and look at the complete ring from an ordinary viewing distance.

Rings and other engagement jewellery

There is room to choose engagement jewellery and engagement rings for men according to the wearer’s preferences. Start with the kind of jewellery they enjoy: a plain band, a stone-set ring or another piece altogether. Collections featuring subtle diamonds or coloured gemstones offer further ideas without prescribing a style for any gender.

A bracelet with horizontal rectangular stones is an alternative jewellery idea, rather than an engagement ring example. Check the length, clasp and comfort for the intended wearer.

Halos and other details

Stone-set pavé bands, a full diamond halo and alternative stone shapes offer more ways to develop a design. Compare how much detail you want around the centre, whether the ring sits comfortably beside another band and what access the setting allows for cleaning.

What to check before choosing

  • Comfort and fit: try the width and profile you intend to wear. Notice the height of the setting when bending your fingers.
  • Wedding-band fit: view the two rings together, including from the side. Decide whether you prefer a gap or a closer fit.
  • Stone identity and documents: confirm whether the selected diamond comes with a grading report, which laboratory issued it and which stone it covers. Ask separately what documentation accompanies side stones or other gemstones.
  • Complete specification: confirm materials, centre-stone measurements, any accent-stone weights, ring size and the complete price.
  • Care: ask about cleaning, setting inspections and the maintenance appropriate to the materials you choose.

A virtual consultation with our expert team at Lily Arkwright can help you discuss the specifications and views you need before deciding.

Choose the design you enjoy wearing

Use this 2026 diamond engagement ring edit to gather ideas, then judge the ring by its proportions, comfort and personal meaning. A broad band, bezel or elongated centre is an option to compare, rather than a requirement.
