We'd recommend comparing the stated chain length with a necklace you already own, as even a small difference changes where the centrepiece falls. If the design includes a pendant, its drop is a separate measurement from the chain itself. The thickness and style of the chain also influence the feel. How do I look after necklaces in regular use?
