Read moreElongated cushion lab-grown diamond engagement rings combine a longer, softly rectangular silhouette with the gentle corners of a cushion cut. Discover platinum and gold settings, from clean solitaires to contemporary bezels and diamond-accented designs. The length-to-width ratio and facet pattern influence how slender the diamond appears and how its sparkle moves across the face.
An elongated cushion lab diamond combines a longer centre-stone outline with softened corners. It is an attractive alternative to an oval if you prefer a more geometric edge without losing a gentle, rounded quality. Some elongated cushions look only slightly rectangular; others have an unmistakably long silhouette.
Compare the measurements on the stone's grading report and look at its face-up shape. The facet arrangement can produce broad flashes or a finer sparkle pattern. Video is particularly useful for seeing whether the appearance is balanced across the whole stone. A classic four-claw solitaire keeps the outline prominent; a halo can broaden it further.
A longer cushion can make a striking centre stone, but the band and gallery should support its shape rather than compete with it. Compare tapered shoulders with a consistent band width, and notice how each changes the impression on the hand. Check whether the cut retains brightness towards the ends and whether the rounded corners are framed evenly. A slightly fuller stone may appeal more than the most elongated option.
Notice how much of the metal shows at the corners, and check the side profile for wedding-ring fit. Compare with our standard cushion cut lab diamond engagement rings if you are undecided between a square and a more elongated centre.

Read moreAn elongated cushion lab-grown diamond has a softly rectangular shape, with rounded corners that distinguish it from a radiant or emerald cut. We'd compare the length-to-width ratio rather than choosing by carat weight alone. Some elongated cushions look very slender; others retain a fuller, softer impression. Seeing the diamond on the hand is useful for working out which proportions feel right for you.
The faceting of an elongated cushion is especially worth examining. Some stones show larger, more defined reflections, while others have a fine crushed-ice effect. We'd suggest viewing the individual diamond in motion and paying attention to its appearance across the entire surface, including any dark areas. A grading report doesn't capture that visual distinction, so we would use it alongside photographs or video rather than on its own.
A narrow solitaire can make the elongated cushion's shape beautifully prominent, while a halo adds detail around its softened rectangle. A bezel creates a stronger geometric frame. We'd check how much of the diamond's edge is visible and whether the basket sits high enough for the wedding band you have in mind. These small design decisions can make the finished ring feel quite different.
Our jewellery specialists would be delighted to help you compare designs at our London or Manchester showrooms, or in a virtual consultation.
