Buying guide

Balancing the distinctive marquise silhouette

A marquise moissanite engagement ring is defined by its length, curved sides and two pointed ends. It creates a clear direction along the finger, making the relationship between the centre stone and the shoulders an important part of the design. A twisting band and a straight band can give the same shape quite different character.

Choose a full or slender outline

Compare the centre's length and width together. A narrower marquise creates a longer visual line, while a fuller shape has more width through the middle. Neither is automatically better. The actual millimetre measurements help you judge the scale, particularly where the moissanite size is also expressed using diamond-equivalent weight.

Look closely at both points

Consider how each pointed end is supported by the setting and how far the stone extends beyond the band. This is a practical question as well as an aesthetic one. A profile view helps show the basket and height; it is also useful when assessing whether another ring can sit alongside without touching the setting.

Let the band shape the composition

Warm yellow gold makes the metal outline more noticeable, while platinum offers a cooler frame. Compare the complete ring rather than choosing a centre stone first and treating the band as an afterthought.

What other elongated shapes should I compare?

Pear shaped moissanite rings retain one point but introduce a rounded end. Oval moissanite rings replace both points with continuous curves. These comparisons can clarify whether it is the length, the taper or the pointed silhouette you find most appealing. Return to our moissanite engagement rings to compare the wider range.
