Elongated cushion gemstone engagement rings retain the rounded corners and soft outline of a cushion cut while extending the stone lengthways. The result feels elegant and contemporary, with more finger coverage than a traditional square cushion and a gentler silhouette than many angular rectangular cuts.
The length-to-width ratio determines how pronounced the elongation feels. A modest ratio keeps the stone close to a classic cushion; a higher ratio creates a noticeably slimmer profile. Small differences can change the look substantially, so compare the listed millimetre measurements and product photography rather than relying on carat weight alone.
The elongated surface can show coloured gemstones beautifully, particularly in saturated blue sapphire, emerald green and ruby red. A solitaire makes the shape the focus, while a hidden halo adds side detail and diamond shoulders bring extra light along the band.
Platinum and white gold give the outline a crisp edge, while yellow and rose gold create warmer contrast. Because the stone is longer, the balance between centre width and band width matters; a very fine band can make the centre appear more dramatic, while a broader band creates a stronger overall presence.
Look at where the claws meet the rounded corners and how the basket supports the length of the centre. A hidden halo adds detail from the side, while a visible halo changes the top-view width. Check the band’s proportions and wedding-ring clearance.
