Hidden Halo Engagement Rings

A hidden halo places a row of small stones beneath the centre stone rather than around its face-up outline. The detail is usually most apparent from the side or at an angle, allowing the centre to remain the main focus when viewed from above. Side-view photographs are therefore especially useful when comparing these rings.

Hidden halo or traditional halo?

A traditional halo frames the centre visibly from above. A hidden halo sits lower, around the setting beneath it. Neither term identifies the centre-stone shape: round, elongated and geometric shapes can be paired with different halo arrangements. Check the individual design rather than assuming every hidden halo has the same profile.

Colourless and coloured centres

The hidden halo is a setting feature, independent of diamond colour. The product specification distinguishes the centre stone from the smaller stones in the halo and band.

Will the hidden halo make the centre look bigger?

It adds detail around the setting, but it does not change the centre stone's dimensions. Its effect also differs from a visible halo that extends the outline viewed from above.

Can it sit beside a straight wedding band?

That depends on the setting height and basket construction. Examine the space beneath the centre and compare the intended wedding band alongside the engagement ring. Some designs leave more room than others.
