Inspiring the Next Generation Through Social Champions

This month, through our Social Champions initiative, we’re proud to support Science Owl in their fundraiser for Her Climate Legacy.

What stood out to us most was how this project connects big global challenges with small, meaningful moments of learning. The idea of introducing children to climate science through hands-on experiments and storytelling felt both thoughtful and timely, especially as March marks Women’s History Month.

Science Owl is a grassroots environmental education initiative focused on helping children explore science, sustainability and climate solutions in an engaging and accessible way. Through interactive workshops and community-led learning, they bring scientific ideas to life and encourage young people to see themselves as future problem-solvers.

For this project, Science Owl is sharing the story of Eunice Newton Foote, a pioneering 19th-century scientist whose work on atmospheric gases helped shape our understanding of the greenhouse effect. Through simple experiments and storytelling, her legacy is being introduced to a new generation in a way that feels relevant, inspiring and easy to understand.

We chose to support Science Owl because of the way their work operates at a grassroots level, combining education, creativity and community engagement. Their approach makes climate science feel accessible, while also highlighting voices that have historically been overlooked.

When we came across the fundraiser, Science Owl was just £400 away from reaching their £3,000 target. Supporting projects at this stage is exactly what Social Champions is about for us, where a single contribution can help bring an idea fully to life. We were delighted to donate £400 to help them reach their goal.

Message from Lily Arkwright acknowledging support for Science Owl through Social Champions initiative.

Our Social Champions donation will support the delivery of interactive workshops as part of the Her Climate Legacy project, which aims to reach 1,000 children through hands-on learning experiences. With sessions costing around £3 per child, this means our contribution will help bring these sessions to hundreds of young people, turning curiosity into real engagement with science and sustainability.

At this scale, the impact is immediate. Each workshop is an opportunity to spark interest, build confidence, and show young people that they can play a role in shaping the future.

We’re proud to support Science Owl through Social Champions and to play a small part in helping them share knowledge, inspire curiosity, and empower the next generation.

Initiatives like this remind us that meaningful change often starts small, whether it’s a classroom experiment that sparks a lifelong interest, or a donation that helps bring those opportunities to life.
