ELOISE - Round Alexandrite Platinum Lotus Leaf Stud Earrings
Compare the scale at the ear using the per-stone dimensions, basket depth and supplied backing.
View this designLab-grown alexandrite earrings offer something unusual: gemstones whose apparent colour can shift with the light. Discover alexandrite studs and delicate decorative settings in platinum and gold, where greenish or bluish tones may appear warmer indoors. Each pair brings an individual colour character, with the gemstone's cut and the chosen metal framing this fascinating effect.
Ask to see the two alexandrites together in daylight-like and warm lighting. Colour change varies with conditions, and matching a pair involves more than equal dimensions. Judge how the colours and outlines relate at the ear rather than comparing separate photographs taken under different lights.
Round and oval outlines occupy the lobe differently. Compare each stone’s length and width, then examine the basket depth and visible metal. The pair’s total weight is not the same as the size of one earring.
Check the supplied posts and backs, and ask about the pair’s weight if comfort is a priority. Follow the care guidance for the stone and setting, and store the earrings so the posts do not scratch other jewellery.

Read moreAlexandrite earrings are particularly interesting because the stones may change colour in different lighting. We'd suggest comparing the pair in daylight and warmer indoor light, as one photograph won't tell you how pronounced that shift is. We'd also look at how closely the two stones match in colour and size. A simple stud can let the gemstone lead, while a more decorative setting changes its overall character.
For alexandrite earrings, we'd compare the dimensions of each stone and the total size of the setting. Because the gemstones can vary in their colour-change effect, seeing the two together under the same lighting is important. We'd also check the earring backs and the total weight, particularly for a larger design. Comfort matters just as much as having a beautifully matched pair.
Alexandrite is relatively hard, but we'd still handle the earrings carefully around their settings and fastenings. We recommend storing each earring separately and avoiding unnecessary impacts or harsh cleaning products. The stones' colour change is part of their character, not something that needs correction. If either backing becomes loose, have it checked promptly so the pair remains secure when worn.
Our jewellery specialists would be delighted to help you compare designs at our London or Manchester showrooms, or in a virtual consultation.
