Choosing pendants

Choose the whole pendant scale

The centre stone’s measurements and the overall pendant size describe different things. Look at the visible frame and bail as well as the stone. A halo or shaped outline can change the footprint at the neckline without changing the centre weight.

Check the chain relationship

Confirm inclusion, length and metal if a chain is supplied. For your own chain, ask whether its end fittings can pass through the bail and whether its weight and construction suit the pendant. Compare pendant-only and complete-necklace prices consistently.

Pendants FAQs

What matters most when choosing fine jewellery pendants?

The size and shape of a pendant make the biggest difference to how it looks when worn. We'd compare its actual height and width in millimetres rather than rely on an enlarged photograph. The chain length matters too, because the same pendant can sit quite differently against a high neckline or an open one. We'd also check whether the selected piece comes with a chain or offers separate chain options.

How should I check the size and fit of fine jewellery pendants?

Pendant dimensions and chain length are separate, so we'd look at both when choosing a gift or planning to layer jewellery. A small centrepiece on a shorter chain can feel subtle, while a longer chain changes the overall effect. If you'd like to use a chain you already own, check the size of the pendant's bail and whether the chain gauge is appropriate for its weight.

How do I look after fine jewellery pendants in regular use?

A pendant relies on a small loop or bail connecting it to the chain, and that's a part we'd check from time to time. Avoid sharp pulls and store the chain carefully to prevent tangles. We recommend cleaning according to the gemstone and metal rather than using a harsh all-purpose product. If the pendant has small accent stones, their settings deserve attention as well.
