Colour and contrast in a platinum gemstone ring

A platinum setting provides a cool white frame for a coloured gemstone. Deep blues, vivid greens and softer shades each create a different relationship with the metal, so start with the colour you enjoy and then consider the outline of the complete ring. This collection is specifically for lab grown gemstones set in 950 platinum.

Choose the gemstone, not only its colour

A lab grown blue sapphire and a lab grown emerald are different gem materials, with different properties and care requirements. Lab grown describes their origin; it does not mean every coloured stone is the same substance. Check the identified gemstone in the individual product specification before comparing designs.

Understand the platinum setting

950 platinum contains 95% platinum. Its naturally white colour offers an alternative to white gold, but it is not scratchproof and can develop a patina through wear. Compare band widths and the height of the basket as well as the view from above. A similar colour does not make white gold gemstone rings identical in composition or maintenance.

Frame the colour with the right amount of detail

An open setting can make the gemstone's outline the main focus; a halo adds another boundary around it. The wider gemstone halo collection is useful for comparing those more decorative compositions. Check the origin and specification of any accent stones separately from the coloured centre.

What should guide everyday care?

Follow the care advice for the particular gemstone and setting, not the metal alone. Cleaning methods suitable for one gem may be inappropriate for another. A jewellery consultation can clarify the stone identity, setting dimensions and wedding-band clearance, helping you choose a ring whose practical details are as considered as its colour.
