A decision based entirely on your personal judgement and the kind of exercising you're performing. Certain forms of exercise, such as weight lifting or contact sports, pose a higher risk of damage to your ring compared to those such as running or cycling, which — with the appropriate care — should be perfectly safe for your ring. Be mindful that your moissanite engagement ring is a piece of fine jewellery which means it's very delicate. If you're even slightly worried about the safety of your engagement ring when exercising it's best to remove your ring. If you decide to wear your ring ensure you take suitable safety precautions, it would be deeply upsetting if your engagement ring were to be lost or damaged.
Can I wear my engagement ring whilst swimming?
Wearing your ring in water is perfectly safe, however, both chlorine and sodium chloride (NaCL) from salt water will remain on the rings surface which can cause discolouring of precious metals and in some cases a slight break down of your rings setting. Also, bear in mind that cold water results in a drop in your body temperature, causing your hands to shrink, posing a risk of your ring slipping off your hand. In general, swimming in a cold pool or sea isn't ideal for your moissanite or lab diamond engagement ring and we'd always recommend that, where possible, you remove your ring before doing so to prevent any damage or loss.
Are there any other occasions I should remove my ring?
Moissanite is one of the hardest minerals in the world, ranking 9.25 on the MOHs hardness scale second only to diamonds, meaning the stone is highly scratch resistant and unaffected by daily wear. Certain household activities such as cooking, cleaning, DIY and gardening can present a risk to your engagement ring. For example, similar to diamonds everyday household solutions can cause a build up of film affecting your moissanite stones sparkle, or your ring could be knocked or scratched during labour intensive housework.
Again, whether you decide to take off your ring for these activities is down to your personal judgement on whether you perceive the activity to be safe for your ring. If you don't feel comfortable wearing your ring, simply take it off. Ultimately, wearing your precious ring for such activities isn't worth the risk of losing or damaging your extremely valuable engagement ring.
Where should I keep my engagement ring whilst it isn't being worn?
Always make sure to store your ring somewhere safe and memorable. We recommend keeping fine jewellery, such as your moissanite ring, in a fabric lined case to minimise the risk of damage. If you own lots of jewellery we suggest using a case featuring multiple compartments to prevent other pieces damaging your precious engagement ring.

How do I clean my moissanite engagement ring at home?
Cleaning your moissanite engagement ring is easily done at home. Simply soak your ring in warm water with a mild soap and gently scrub with a soft toothbrush or cloth, paying attention to clean those hard to reach areas. Once clean, rinse off any soap residue and dry with a lint-free cloth for a freshly sparkling moissanite ring.
Avoid cleaning your ring with harsh chemicals, as this can cause corrosion to your rings delicate setting. If your ring does require a deeper clean choose a commercial jewellery cleaner, non-toxic and non-abrasive, specifically formulated for moissanite. Ammonia is safe to use and can be effective in cleaning moissanite rings in a solution of 1 part ammonia to 1-2 parts water.
Should I have my engagement ring professionally cleaned?
Having your moissanite ring professionally cleaned is a brilliant idea. We recommend having your ring deep-cleaned professionally at least once a year to remove any organic build up, maximise brilliance and sparkle and extend your rings life. Many jewellers offer over the counter jewellery cleaning, with the option for ultrasonic cleaning open for those owning a moissanite ring. This is where sound waves are paired with a cleaning solvent to create intense vibrations to effectively remove build up from your stone for a beautiful shimmering finish. However, an alternative method of professional cleaning is best if your ring features a fragile setting or other softer gemstones.
Should I insure my moissanite engagement ring?
Your engagement ring is a priceless symbol of the love and commitment you and your partner share. Lily Arkwright are proud to offer a 12 month warranty on all our jewellery which covers any manufacturing faults, as well as Charles & Colvard Limited Lifetime Warranty to guarantee your moissanite stone will maintain its fire and brilliance for your lifetime.
