Pear cut gemstone engagement rings combine a rounded end with a single tapered point, creating the recognisable teardrop silhouette. The asymmetric shape gives the centre stone a natural sense of movement and length, making it an expressive choice for coloured gemstones and a flattering profile on the finger.
Pear gemstones can be broad and softly rounded or long and slender. The length-to-width ratio affects both visual size and character, while the symmetry of the shoulders determines how balanced the stone looks. Compare the millimetre measurements and photographs to decide whether you prefer a fuller or more elongated pear.
The shape gives plenty of surface area for colour. Emerald green, sapphire blue and ruby red each create a very different impression. Pear stones are traditionally worn with the point facing towards the fingertip, but the design remains a matter of personal preference.
The pointed end should be carefully secured because it is the most vulnerable part of the outline. Look at the claw or V-tip detail in the product photography, as well as the setting height and wedding-band clearance. A solitaire emphasises the teardrop shape, while halo and shoulder-set designs add more brilliance around it.
Check how the point is protected and whether the claws preserve the outline you enjoy. Try the design in both orientations. A shaped wedding band may follow the point or curve more comfortably than a straight band, depending on the setting.
